Poem Practice.
[ First exercise: Alliteration. ]
For the first time,
Fear forgot its fangs.
Freedom, with its frayed edges, forged forward into the fight.
Colossal kings came to this place,
complacent and empty-handed they chided its caverns for concealing secrets never meant to be known.
A snake slithers unnoticed into the garden.
Singing sweet lullabies to hearts yet to harden.
Swift sacrifices they made for the stories yet to be written.
[ Second Exercise: AABB Stanzas ]
Provide me with light.
Do not let me out of your sight.
For you are the guide,
and I am the trusty sword you keep by your side.
The treachery she was going to commit could be felt, even through text.
The receiver could only guess what would happen next.
But that was part of the punishment.
Knowing the truth, and that he could only run from it.
[ Third Exercise: Freestyle ]
The guilt of a survivor, for speaking of surviving.
The truth behind every word he was hiding.
For a man, cannot complain.
In spreading enmity, he breeds for himself same.
_____
Yes, I will go with you.
I will carry your pack.
I will sleep by your side,
and I will watch your back.
When we flee, I will hasten your steps.
And when we walk I will walk for you instead.
If you speak, I am happy to listen.
But do not ask me to speak,
I wear shoes you can’t fit in.
You may lead me to water,
But it is my choice to drink.
Some think I am only fodder,
But I think that they stink.
(Of a horse.)
_____
Dance.
The way you did that night.
The Christmas lights sparkled the way I did inside.
You lit up the room, and you dropped my heart out of my chest.
I wanted to be your groom, you couldn’t think of me less.
I consoled you over words never said.
I listened to you talk about how you would pick him instead.
If only the spark of my life could light a flame so large.
Maybe then I could look at myself in the heart.
Maybe then my hands could run, and my feet could walk.
Maybe then my mouth could sing, and my mind could talk.
_____
My poems are sad. I can’t seem to help it.
Be unafraid.
As always,
Stay Warm.
