Opportunities.

Hey, happy day to you - whichever this happens to find you on.

I’ve had an interesting week. The weather outside has gotten colder, but it’s sunny, so I’ve been enjoying it. Progress on my photo series, Catharsis, is coming faster than expected.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about opportunities and chances. There was this concept in a book I was reading by Umberto Ecco that talked about opportunities, and how opportunities only worked out if you weren’t aware they were opportunities during the opportunity.

Word repetition aside, this makes sense. When we see something as an opportunity, more often than not, it means that we have a desired outcome. And when you have a desired outcome it can change who you are along the journey. Which I think is what Umberto Ecco was trying to get at.

When we’re unaware of the opportunity we’re fully ourselves and fully engaged, which allows us to take advantage of it and end up with the prize at the end. Only in hindsight do we recognize that the opportunity for the reward at the end was there all along.

If there’s anything I want you to take from this, it’s to enjoy the journey. Don’t get caught up in the rewards at the end. And if you find yourself doubting a shot before you take it - ask yourself what it would be like if you made it.
