Obsession.
Obsession.
Despite its negative connotations, I believe it is one of the healthiest and truest things in the human experience. We have all had this obsession at some point, whether it was over a new activity or certain event.
Do you remember how it felt? To think of nothing else and mind nothing else?
In today’s world there are so many things trying to grab our attention and when we find something that we can truly love and obsess over, it will set you free.
To garner and water that obsession, so that it manifests in a healthy way is your job to yourself. Your job to your higher self. And the responsibility is on you. That 30 minute session in the gym on a day when you don’t want to show up. Never taking 2 weeks off in your lifetime so that the muscle you’ve built doesn’t atrophy.
When it comes to what I love and want to do, I think about the totality of the situation. When you are obsessed, everything matters. What can I do so that I set myself up more optimally? Do I implement a certain diet so that my mind and body can work better? Do I need to push myself to get in the gym so that lugging around all this heavy gear and aiming this huge lens are literally nothing to me but an afterthought? Am I staying hydrated properly? What can I read, and how can I hone my craft? Who knows more than me and has experienced more than me so that I can draw from their experience, instead of having to go through it myself?
Obsession and love are one in the same. Obsession cannot exist without love and love is never born without obsession. A Yin and Yang balance of energies.
I guess all I’m trying to say is that you should feed what feeds you. And love doing so. Some of the most brilliant and fun people I’ve met are the ones obsessed with something.
Stay warm.
