The Proposal.
In another life, I asked a question.
The question was, what really matters? You see, I was at the crossroads of: making it as a lot of people would understand it, and continuing to live in a more subdued way. I struggled to find the line between sacrificing quality of life and sacrificing quality of nights… Putting it in a less cliché way, I was drawing my own line in the sand of where my morals were, where my heart was, and how much I was willing to mute them in order to live more comfortably.
When it comes to drawing our own lines in the sand it’s important to ask yourself the big questions. What really matters to you? Why does it matter to you? What effects you emotionally — thereby physically?
Have you always grown up a little above a certain quality of life, so dipping below that - you can’t imagine? How much money do you need to make in order to live a life that you will be happy with? In what ways are you okay with making it?
Most importantly, what really matters to you?
I believe its very easy to get blinded as we go. Gold plated costumes have turned many friends against each other. Drawn many people so far along a path, that when they finally open their eyes and see beyond — what feels like too much time has gone by. Gold makes turning a blind eye so much easier. The promise of reward, the feeling of superiority, power over others, obligation, and fear is what drives people.
But when you look, you can see it. That spark of humanity present in everyone. The silent suffering of those who have followed the golden path a little farther than their spirit is content with.
Find an outlet. Make time to nourish that part of your spirit that you have ignored for so long. Write shitty poetry. Draw terrible pictures or sing songs so tone deaf that you could wake the dead. Give yourself room to live in a non-judgmental environment and give your spirit room to express itself. Meditate silently in the morning before the world stirs — or whenever you can make time for it. (Mornings are my preference.)
We all come to a crossroad in life. So I’ll ask you today, what have you made matter most in your life and are you okay with it?
Thank you so much for your time, and for reading.
Stay warm.
