For Glory.
You get one shot, that’s it. One shot if you’re lucky. One shot if you’re good enough. One shot that you work your whole life for. It’s there. And then it’s gone. *snap* Just like that.
And the reality of having missed it or made it becomes who you are. It drives who you become.
But there is something beyond that, and what you see as your one shot might only be one of your shots. Much like when we are young and we fall in love, we think that’s it. And then we blink and the memory of that person is nothing but a hazy summer day in a long forgotten home. We come to realize that that love wasn’t all there is. We only seem to realize the measure of our perspective in hindsight. Only through experience do we come to understand the folly of our perspective in the moments of our lives.
So, what can we do?
We can point our ship in a direction. A clear direction. We can set our mind to clear goals. Care for the crew. Clean the deck. Sew the holes that develop in the sails. And when life inevitably tosses us overboard, we can hold onto why we started our journey in the first place. We can remember that it was not the ship going on the journey, but the person who directed its sails. We can gather ourselves and get back on the ship. Look to the stars or the horizon and correct the course.
Hold tightly to your dreams. Hold tightly to your loved ones. The journey may be treacherous. Full of people who will point you in different directions. People who will curse you for the direction in which you sail. You will care for crew members who jump overboard and leave behind nasty presents. Crew who tries to poison you. You will encounter deadly seas. But in the end, if you make it to where the sun sets orange and gold across a vast cloudless skies, and the waves lap quietly against a white sanded beach, then you will know that the journey was worth it.
No matter the trials, I would rather live a life in motion.
Thank you for reading.
As always,
Stay warm.
